Mixed Berry Galette

Nothing says summer more than a dessert made with fresh berries. This dessert can be referred to as a French Galette or an Italian Crostata. They are basically the same rustic dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of mixed berries
  • 3 tablespoons of flour
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 pie crust
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Sanding sugar for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Mix all ingredients and pour into the center of the prepared dough.
  3. Fold the edges of the dough over the fruit, leaving the center exposed.
  4. Make egg wash by mixing the egg with 1 tablespoon of water.
  5. Brush around the pie crust; then sprinkle with sanding sugar.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
  7. Let the Galette sit until cooled.
  8. Serve with or without a scoop of ice cream.
