Basic Pie Crust

This is my go to crust recipe when I need to make a pie. It’s perfect for either savory or sweet pies.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 cup of vegetable shortening
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons ice water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl combine the flour and salt.
  2. Cut in the shortening and butter with pastry blender or two forks. It should resemble coarse meal once it’s all mixed in.
  3. Gradually add enough ice water while mixing with a wooden spoon. Form the dough into a ball.
  4. Wrap the dough in a piece of floured plastic wrap.
  5. Store in the fridge until ready to use.
