I love this recipe because it is so simple. Like said above, it can be used to top pasta or as a pizza sauce. You can also prepare it in a big batch and store it in mason jars for a later use. The red wine gives this sauce a boost of richness and fullness. If you do not have red wine on hand you may use beef broth as a substitute.
Ingredients
- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
- 1/8 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup red wine
- 3 garlic cloves, grated
- 1/2 tablespoon basil
- 1/2 tablespoon parsley
- 1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a medium sauce pan.
- Simmer for 30 minutes.
- Serve with pasta, on a pizza, or store in mason jars.
